dividerFor good light reading, nothing compares to Sarah Addison Allen’s writing. And she does it again in First Frost, the second in the Waverley Series. However, both the first book, Garden Spells, and First Frost stand alone beautifully.
First Frost carries us about a decade beyond Garden Spells and continues the story of the Waverley family in the small town of Bascom, North Carolina. Each and every Waverley female possesses a gift. Allen uses these characters and their magical abilities to weave a story filled with hope, love, and the magical reality of life.
I don’t know exactly what Allen did with this story but it had a feel of coming home again. The sights, sounds, and smells described page after page evoked memories of returning home after leaving for college or moving away to start my home. The touch of Southern charm and comfort lends the air of a feel good book.
My wish? That the recipes used in these Waverley books would be compiled in a recipe book!
