The Canary List by Sigmund Brouwer

Sigmund Brouwer's The Canary List

Protected by the dark of night, Jaimie Piper runs. But is anywhere safe when Evil is hunting you?
She’s just a twelve year-old girl, bumped around between foster homes and relegated to school classes for challenged kids, those lagging in their test scores or with behavioral issues. But her real problem is that she can sense something the other kids can’t—something dark. Something compelling her to run for her life.
All Crockett Grey wants is to mark the anniversary of his daughter’s death alone.
But when his student Jaimie comes to him, terrified, her need for protection collides with his grief, and a tangled web of bizarre events sends them both spiraling toward destruction.

Crockett’s one hope of getting his life back is to uncover the mysterious secrets of Jaimie’s past and her strange gift. It isn’t long before his discoveries lead him to a darker conspiracy, secrets guarded by the highest seat of power in the world—the Vatican.

An intriguing synopsis, equally intriguing cover, and an author with a name I’d never heard before–Sigmund Brouwer. Why not enter the contest to win a copy of The Canary List? I never win anything anyway, but I did win a copy of this book. So glad I entered!

I enjoyed Sigmund Brouwer’s writing and creativity from page one all the way through this novel.

Brouwer’s characters are well crafted, so much so they leap off the page at you. Jaime is the epitome of an adolescent filled with fear and a strong will to survive. Crockett hope helping Jaime will help him pull back together a life falling apart.

Neither of them realizes the depth of what they face as they attempt to figure out what is going on in each of their lives.

Brouwer has a way of weaving together fictional themes with the current facts of the day and then when you read it, you’re not quite sure what to make of what he’s saying. However, it all comes together word by word, page by page, and character by character.

This is my first Brouwer read and it won’t be my last.

If you love a good suspense-filled thriller with twists and turns, you’ll enjoy Sigmund Brouwer’s The Canary List. I lightly caution against allowing readers under the age of 18 to read it as some language is a bit tough and it can grab  you and scare you crazy! Otherwise, don’t miss it.

Sigmund Brouwer, AuthorWhether writing youth or adult fiction, Sigmund Brouwer is a best-selling author of more than 40 fast-paced novels. He loves going to schools to get kids excited about reading, reaching roughly 80,000 students a year through his Rock&Roll Literacy Show.
